Ella's Grandmother, Debbie, and I are friends. Our families go "way back" as they say in the South. Debbie's sister was and still is one of my Mama's dearest friends. They went to school together.
Although Debbie was a little older than me, we also went to school together. I remember her being a pretty high school girl when I was growing up. I remember visiting her sister's house many times over the years. They live in a small community, of mostly farmers, near Dothan.
Debbie and I had not seen each other in many years. One day, last year, we saw each other again and I immediately felt a friendship connection with her. When she shared with me that her daughter, Carrie, was expecting, I remember being excited for her and looking forward to meeting this new little blessing.
Fast forward to sometime in February and we were sitting and talking with my BFF, Marea, and the subject of newborn photos came up. Debbie said she didn't know I did newborn photos and asked me about doing some of Ella. Ella was born in January so she was beyond the traditional "newborn session" age but I agreed that I'd capture some sweet memories for Debbie's granddaughter. We set up the session as soon as possible but I ended up having to reschedule due to a family illness and fast forward to March 10 and here we are.
Ella is 9 weeks new. I will admit going into this session, that I dubbed a modified newborn session, I was a little anxious. I was worried that Ella might not be into a sleepy pose, might be too wiggly and wide-eyed for traditional newborn and might be too big to fit in my newborn props. So, I promised we'd modify and do what we could. Ella's Mama and Grandmother brought along a few things they wanted to incorporate - special outfits, a beautiful old baby quilt that was Carrie's when she was a baby, a tiny diamond baby ring that was also Carrie's as a baby, and a few other things. Ella was the sweetest baby - and, at about 10 pounds didn't quite fit as snuggly as a 6 pounder in my newborn bowls and baskets but she did fit an old antique pram! And, you all know that I love new babies in old prams. Here are a few sneak peeks from Ella's session.
If you or someone you know is expecting, please call or message me to schedule your newborn session today. I also offer documentary style birth photography!
